Central PA Legends Release 2021 Dirt Series Schedule

New Oxford, Pa.: Shawn Groft was a rookie driver with the Central Pennsylvania Legends last season and liked what he saw going on with the series.

More important, he saw the growth and strong leadership of the group. So much so, that Groft, the general manager of Gene Latta Ford in Hanover, Pa., wanted to be more than a series sponsor and competitor with the series.

So, Groft approached series owner Scott Gobrecht. Before the 2020 season came to an end, the two came to an agreement that led to Groft becoming the new co-owner of the Gene Latta Ford Central PA Legends Series.

“After racing in the Central PA Legends series this year and seeing the growth and potential this series has and pairing that with the great people I met in the division, it was very easy decision to invest in this group,” Groft said.

“This series continues to expand and has a great group of drivers. I’m excited to be able to take a bigger role in the success of the series.”

The Central PA Legends have a full slate of races that is 42 strong. BAPS Motor Speedway and Trail-Way Speedway host the most events, with 10 and nine respectively. Lincoln Speedway and Path Valley have seven shows apiece, and Linda’s, Big Diamond, Winchester, and Potomac will also hold events during the 2021 season.

There will also be an asphalt series again during the upcoming season. Evergreen Raceway will hold all of the events with dates to be determined. The series will again be sponsored by MJR Equipment.

“As the Central PA Legends continue to grow, it’s important we expand our team,” said Gobrecht, who also owns BAPS Motor Speedway and a portion of Lincoln Speedway. “Shawn brings a passion for all things racing along with a proven record in the business world.

“Shawn is the perfect fit to join and lead the series. His unique perspective as both a series owner and a competitor provide a great deal of insight. We are beyond excited for the future of the series as we move into the 2021 season.”

The Central PA Legends is one of the best support divisions in the central Pennsylvania region, and it shows with the renewed support of sponsors.

There will be a Four-Track Challenge sponsored by Houdeshell Home Improvement. The tracks included in the series are Linda’s, Big Diamond, Potomac, and Winchester Speedway.

Baker Door Company is on board to sponsor the 10 events at BAPS Motor Speedway. Harvest Chapel will sponsor Central PA Legends races at Trail-Way, with McSherrytown Moose picking up the events at Lincoln Speedway. Path Valley Speedway is in the process of getting a sponsor for its events.

The Central PA Legends will also have an increased point fund in 2021, thanks to MRD Maintenance Solutions. The champion will receive $1,000. Each individual track champion will also receive awards from Craley Crabs.

“We can’t thank our sponsors enough for their support,” Gobrecht said. “This series continues to grow, and that wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors. We are honored to have them on board for the upcoming season.”

Opening Day for the Central PA Legends will be March 13 at Lincoln Speedway. The Trail-Way/Lincoln Speedway Shootout presented by Wurtzer’s Garage takes place April 23-24. The biggest event on the schedule is the PA Summer Slam at Path Valley Speedway Sept. 9-11. The event will pay $1,300 to the winner.
