Update on Ray Swank’s condition

AUGUST 17, 2004

I  had my follow-up orthopedic appointment yesterday.  The doctor says I cannot go back to work until after Labor Day.

I will not be back racing this year.  The Championship is open to any one of you now.  The best of luck to each of you.

JULY 24, 2004

I have a concussion, contusion of my sternum and my knee is fractured 3 places.  I consider myself fortunate to have been able to walk away from my accident last Friday at Path Valley Speedway.  It is disappointing to have learned this past week that I am not permitted to work or race.

A special thanks to all my Legend friends the night of the accident who helped in some way to get my destroyed car in the trailer.   I could only supervise as my pain increased that night.  I appreciate Trudy Morrow coming in our trailer and sitting with Ginny to make sure she was OK.

I have been offered cars to drive and do appreciate the support and thoughtfulness of those individuals but per doctor orders I must decline.  Denny Rothermel insisted I pick up his car but I had to return it.  Also, I want to especially thank Bob Murray and Don Stevens for taking time out Sunday to take my wrecked car apart.  The telephone calls are appreciated too.

This is a challenging time for me but I am learning to relax.  Thanks for your continued support in my healing process.
